This desperately creepy photo just appeared in my Facebook newsfeed, shared by someone who went to my high school.
Late last year, a Groupon deal appeared from a company that offered to make an oil painting out of any photo you sent them. I bought it in the 20x24 size without really knowing what photo I’d eventually send in, but I knew I’d have to choose from my favorite tumblr, Internet History. After much deliberation, including a lengthy Twitter discussion with the blog’s proprietor, Doug, I picked the above slightly blurry photo of an IHop to-go breakfast.
The painting arrived today, rolled in a tube, and I COULD NOT BE MORE ECSTATIC. It’s better than I could have ever imagined and I love it. I highly recommend the company, PishPoshPaints, for all your weirdo-custom-oil-painting-related needs. (They also specialize in Judaic art!) My sincerest thanks to PishPosh, Groupon, Doug, and most of all to the stranger who ordered this breakfast and took this photo and posted it online.
This year’s WFMU fund-raising marathon starts February 20th, and as an enticement, the station’s d.j. Michael Shelley has created a special tribute album in which contemporary rock and pop artists cover their favorite Top 40 hits from the seventies. All songs were recorded for the compilation only. It’s not available in stores, physical or digital. The only way to get it is to make a pledge to the station.

I made some very low-budg valentines today! Inspired by and starring famous animals of the internet. (The real-world versions of these were designed like collectible cards—the back included the animal’s name and vital stats—and were numbered and laminated.)
